At the start of 2026, Omega has quickly introduced a new Speedmaster Moonwatch to mark January’s Speedy Tuesday. The new model, named Speedmaster Moonwatch Black White, is available in stainless steel or 18K Moonshine™ gold and features a striking reverse panda dial design that immediately draws attention.
First introduced in 1957, the Speedmaster Moonwatch is one of Omega’s most iconic collections. The series continues the classic design language established by earlier models and holds an important place in watchmaking history. In addition to being officially certified by NASA, the Speedmaster was worn during multiple space missions, including the Apollo 11 moon landing. With its legendary heritage and recognizable design, the Speedmaster Moonwatch has remained one of the most popular chronographs among collectors worldwide.
Speedy Tuesday began in 2012, created by watch website Fratello Watches, which featured Speedmaster watches every Tuesday. Since then, collectors around the world have adopted the Speedy Tuesday hashtag to share their watches and experiences on social media. In recent years, Omega has also embraced this tradition by choosing Tuesdays to release new Speedmaster models.
What Makes the Reverse Panda Dial Special
When the dial and sub-dial colors are reversed in contrast, the design is commonly known as a panda dial or reverse panda dial. Most Speedmaster Moonwatch models in the past featured single-color dials, with only a few exceptions such as certain 18K gold versions and limited editions.
The black and white combination is especially rare within the Speedmaster Moonwatch lineup. The last notable example was the Speedmaster Speedy Tuesday Limited Edition released in 2017 as a tribute to Speedy Tuesday. This makes the new model both familiar and refreshing at the same time.
High Contrast Dial and Ceramic Bezel Continue the Moonwatch Tradition
The dial uses a two-layer metal construction. The black main dial is finished with varnish and lacquer, then polished to create a refined surface with subtle shine. The white sub-dials are also lacquer finished and framed with rhodium-plated borders, enhancing depth and visual definition. The black dial features white printed scales, while the white sub-dials use black markings, creating strong contrast and excellent legibility.
The bezel is made of ceramic instead of traditional aluminum. The tachymeter scale is applied in white enamel, improving durability and overall quality. The bezel also retains classic Moonwatch details such as the Dot over 90 and Dot diagonal to 70, design elements inherited from early Moonwatch models that remain part of the collection today as a tribute to Omega’s heritage.
From Classic Utility to Luxurious Appeal: Dual Materials Meet Different Needs
The Omega Speedmaster Moonwatch Black White is available in both stainless steel and 18K Moonshine™ gold versions. Both models are powered by the manual winding Calibre 3861 movement, featuring 26 jewels, a frequency of 21,600 vibrations per hour, and a power reserve of approximately 50 hours. Each watch is housed in a 42mm case and offers water resistance to 50 meters. The stainless steel version presents a classic and practical look, while the 18K Moonshine™ gold version delivers a more luxurious presence.
In terms of details, the stainless steel model features rhodium-plated hands and hour markers coated with white Super-LumiNova, ensuring excellent visibility in low light conditions. The 18K Moonshine™ gold version uses matching gold hands and hour markers, while the chronograph second hand is finished in Moonshine™ gold PVD, creating a more cohesive and refined appearance.
The bracelet follows the signature Speedmaster Moonwatch design, featuring rounded links with a combination of polished and brushed finishes. It is also equipped with Omega’s patented Comfort Release System, allowing the wearer to easily micro-adjust the bracelet at the clasp without tools, enhancing both convenience and wearing comfort.
