Rolex has rarely introduced commemorative models throughout its history. In 2026, to mark the 100th anniversary of the Oyster case, the brand unveiled the Oyster Perpetual 41 100th Anniversary Edition. First introduced in 1926, the Oyster case is widely regarded as the foundation of the modern waterproof wristwatch. The anniversary model, Reference 134303, pays tribute to this groundbreaking innovation with several exclusive design details.
The Oyster Case: The Legendary Story of Mercedes Gleitze and Rolex Oyster
In 1926, Rolex introduced the revolutionary Oyster waterproof case, featuring a screw-down caseback and screw-down winding crown that hermetically sealed the movement, effectively protecting it from dust and moisture. This innovation established the standard for modern waterproof wristwatches.

In 1927, Rolex sought to demonstrate the Oyster case's remarkable performance by having British swimmer Mercedes Gleitze wear a Rolex Oyster while attempting to swim across the English Channel. Although she was forced to abandon the attempt just three miles from the finish due to exhaustion, the watch was subsequently examined by an independent committee and found to be functioning perfectly, with no trace of moisture inside the case. This real-world test propelled the Oyster to worldwide fame and cemented its place in watchmaking history.
The 100th Anniversary Edition – Reference 134303-0001
The Oyster Perpetual has long been one of Rolex's most iconic and fundamental collections. The new Reference 134303 celebrates the Oyster case's centenary with several exclusive anniversary design elements.
Unlike traditional Yellow Rolesor models, the Ref. 134303 does not feature yellow gold centre links on the bracelet. Instead, it pairs an 18k yellow gold domed bezel and winding crown with a fully Oystersteel Oyster bracelet, creating a clean and understated look.
The watch features a slate sunray-finished dial with several commemorative details, including the "100 YEARS" signature replacing the traditional "SWISS MADE" text at 6 o'clock, green minute track accents and a green Rolex logo. The applied 18k yellow gold hour markers and hands are filled with Chromalight luminescent material, emitting a long-lasting blue glow in low-light conditions.
The Ref. 134303 measures 41mm in diameter and approximately 11.6mm thick. It is fitted with a sapphire crystal, Twinlock screw-down crown, screw-down caseback and offers 100 metres of water resistance.

Powering the watch is Rolex's in-house Calibre 3230 automatic movement, which offers approximately 70 hours of power reserve. It is equipped with the Chronergy escapement, Parachrom hairspring and Paraflex shock absorbers. The movement is certified as a Rolex Superlative Chronometer and guarantees an accuracy of -2/+2 seconds per day after casing.
The Oyster Perpetual 41 134303 is more than just a commemorative timepiece. It celebrates one of the most influential innovations in Rolex's history and serves as a fitting tribute to 100 years of the Oyster legacy.
