In the realm of haute horlogerie, two aesthetic forces often stand in contrast. One celebrates the pinnacle of mechanical complexity, the other achieves profound elegance through minimalist purity. The latest creations from A. Lange & Söhne, the Saxonia Thin Honeygold® and Platinum Black Onyx Limited Editions, embody the latter philosophy. These watches forego ostentatious complications, relying instead on perfect proportions and meticulous finishing to elevate the “less is more” principle to its ultimate expression.
A Quiet Tribute to Saxony
In October 2025, A. Lange & Söhne paid tribute once again to its birthplace of Saxony with a discreet yet powerful presentation. This month holds special meaning for the brand, as 31 years ago, in the same month, it marked its rebirth in Dresden with four now-classic timepieces. Since then, Lange has made October a moment for unveiling something remarkable. This year, the new Saxonia Thin continues that legacy with an even more minimalist expression.
The two new limited editions are crafted from the brand’s signature 18-carat Honeygold and 950 platinum, each measuring 40 millimetres in diameter and only 6.2 millimetres thick, limited to 200 pieces per version. The dial is made of black onyx, first introduced on the Lange 1 30th Anniversary Edition last year. Its deep, mirror-like surface captures shifting light with subtle motion, creating a quiet sense of depth and refined elegance.

Dual Character: Honeygold® and Platinum
The Honeygold® variant is crafted from Lange’s proprietary alloy, a warm, honey-like hue that sits between rose gold and white gold. Its hardness surpasses standard 18K gold, making it both rare and resilient. The metal exudes a soft luminosity, capturing the essence of German understated elegance, a rational luxury with a poetic touch.
The 950 platinum version, in contrast, presents a cooler, more austere aura. Its naturally white luster pairs with the black onyx dial to create a striking contrast reminiscent of piano keys. Together, the two metals embody opposing yet complementary aesthetics: warm and cool, soft and firm, yet both profoundly restrained.
Deep Black Onyx: Shadow and Light
Crafting an onyx dial is an exacting process. Lange selects the most uniform portions of the stone, cutting, polishing, and finishing them to achieve a flawless mirror-like surface. The resulting dial exhibits subtle shifts of light, reminiscent of a tranquil night sky. The combination of onyx with either Honeygold® or platinum enhances the depth and richness of the dial, producing a visual harmony that is simultaneously discreet and luxurious.

Precision Within: The L093.1 Movement
Minimalist aesthetics demand mechanical excellence. Through the sapphire crystal case back, Lange’s in-house Calibre L093.1 hand-wound movement is revealed. Despite its slim 2.9 mm thickness, it provides a robust 72-hour power reserve. Constructed with untreated German silver, the three-quarter plate, hand-engraved balance cock, and polished steel components reflect Lange’s meticulous craftsmanship. Blue steel screws, gold chatons, and the precisely executed escapement system further demonstrate the brand’s philosophy: functionality and beauty are inseparable.
